(This one is hard to write)
Jude: Hi Kitty.
Kitty: uh oh – what’s wrong.
I know that tone.
Jude: My heart is heavy. I saw something today that made me cry.
Kitty: Now mama kootsie – you
know a commercial can make you cry.
Jude: That’s true.
Jude: Do you remember that
orange cat that comes around trying to get your attention.
Kitty: Do I. He won’t be coming back though. Last time he did – I peed all over the front
window and carpet. I showed him who owns this house. Do you remember that?
Jude: oh yes – quite vividly –
I’m surprised you`re still here after that incident.
Kitty: HMMPH! Someone has to
protect you. So what’s wrong mama.
Jude: Well I saw him
today. Hey let’s give him a name – I’m
going to call him Mr. Tabby. He looked
like a dignified Mr. Tabby. The way he
walked around – like some suave furry cat you would see on the cover of GQ
Kitty.
Kitty: I don’t know if I
would go that far. But he was relatively
handsome – for an orange cat.
Jude: He’s gone Kitty. He’s gone. He was just laying there. Just
down the road – just past Uncle Stephen’s.
I stopped my car. I couldn’t
drive past. I just wanted his family to know that someone else cared, even a
stranger.
Kitty: oh. I`m so sorry mama.
I am so sorry.
Jude: Me too. His mama was with him though. Gently brushing his coat and crying. And now here I go, crying again. She was so
sad. All I could say was ``I`m so
sorry``.
Jude: I think her Dad came
out of the house – carrying a blanket and a box. Oh Kitty, it was a really beautiful soft baby
blue blanket. A lot of love went into
that blanket. Mr. Tabby`s mama started
crying harder. I heard her say ``oh look
that`s his blanket. He was laying in that this morning. He`ll like that``.
Kitty: It`s ok mama
kootsie. He`s not alone. You`re never
alone when that happens. Angels go into overdrive when someone leaves. No one ever leaves here alone.
Jude: My heart is still
hurting.
Kitty: It means you
care. You can`t have the love without
the pain mama. Or as we say, can`t have the cat without the dog.
Jude: Can we say a
prayer for Mr. Tabby? Will you say a prayer for Mr. Tabby.
Kitty: Ok.
"As we
lay our furry bodies down to sleep,
We pray
to Above, our furry bodies to keep.
If we
should die, before we wake,
We pray
to Above, our furry souls to take.
And if we are blessed with yet another day,
We thank
you Above, for guarding our way."
Jude: Amen.
Kitty: Bye Mr.
Tabby.

ReplyDeleteI'm a writer. I love to write. As a self-proclaimed Introvert it opens my world up like never before. Kitty is one of my many muses. Along with my passion and love for animals and the preservation of their beauty and spirit. The cover photo on Kitty's facebook page says it ever so eloquently "Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That’s the problem. A.A. Milne. “Winnie the Pooh” - let's all listen collectively.
